Who We Are

The Million Trees Foundation, Inc. is a non-stock and non-profit organization duly registered with the Philippines Securities and Exchange Commission. It is the nongovernment organization partner of the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) in its Annual Million Trees Challenge activities.

The creation of a thousand forests is in one acorn.

Our Roots

The Million Trees Foundation, Inc. traces its roots to the Annual Million Trees Challenge (AMTC) launched on June 13, 2017 by then MWSS Administrator Gen. Reynaldo V. Velasco (Ret.). The AMTC was a five-year watershed rehabilitation project involving the planting of one million trees yearly in seven critical watersheds namely: Angat, Ipo, Kaliwa, La Mesa, Laguna de Bay, Umiray and Upper Marikina including Manila Bay. The maiden AMTC tree-planting activity was undertaken on June23, 2017 at Ipo watershed.

Our Objectives

The Million Trees Foundation, Inc. objectives are: to preserve and restore the ecosystem functions watersheds nationwide; conduct tree-planting activities to address erosion and forest denudation; engage in awareness campaign in support of the government’s tree-planting/reforestation program and CSR environment projects of the private sector; and introduce automation and modern technology to fast-track achievement of tree-planting goals and sustainability.

What We Do

The Million Trees Foundation, Inc. is advocating for the planting of bamboos (Bambusa vulgaris) along river banks. It is also pushing for the planting of indigenous and fruit-bearing trees while adhering to the rule of planting the right tree in the right place.

Aside from tree-planting activities, it manages the Million Tree Nursery and Eco-learning Center where greenhouses, a multi-purpose center, composting facility, carpentry station, and an Indoor Cultivation System are located. It also provides livelihood opportunities to residents in watershed areas.

The Million Trees Foundation, Inc. has expanded its rehabilitation and restoration efforts to include green zones and parks in the metropolitan area by partnering with local government units.
